Good to Know
Where to meet - On the mornings of
cut, the crew meets in the Albertson's parking lot on University in
between Hwy. 6 and Texas. They have allowed us to leave our
cars there. The particular times we meet will be posted on the
home page every week during cut. For Stack, we usually meet on
site fifteen minutes before our shift.
Be prepared. Here's a list of things you need to participate:
- Pot - This is the helmet everyone wears. You can buy one at
Ol' Sarge's on Northgate (College Main across from Antonio's Pizza and
Holick's). If you're just visiting, we'll
have a couple of extras available, but supplies are limited. You will
not be allowed in the woods or at stack site without a pot.
Painting your pot: OC Hog pots are all black with white
lettering, have "OC Hogs" painted on the left side and your class year on the back (nickname optional
- if you don't have one, you'll get one). Outside of the basics, you can
put whatever you want to on your pot; quotes, stickers and designs are
all encouraged. Get creative. Do not paint stripes
of any color.
- Grodes - Or Bonfire clothes. Yeah, you'll need these, but specifically
you'll need to wear clothes that you don't plan on using again outside
of Bonfire. You'll only need one set. And don't wash 'em. That smell
is good memories (even if your roomates wince when they get a whiff
of it). Long pants or overalls and any ol' shirt will do. When choosing
pants, make sure they're not too long or excessively baggy. Too much
extra material will get in the way and could cause you to trip.
Consider wearing a long-sleeved shirt or having a long-sleeved shirt to
wear on top of a sleeveless or short-sleeved shirt.
- Boots - Leather work boots are mandatory. Steel-toed boots
are recommended, but not required. You can pick up a pair at Wal-Mart or
wherever for around $20. If the cost gives you some trouble, let us
know. We don't want shoes to be the reason you miss this experience.
- Driver's License - You have to have your ID to be
admitted into the Bonfire sites.
- Food - Bring a lunch, its usually not provided on-site.
If you meet at Albertson's with the crew, you can buy what you need
there before we take off.
Stuff that's good to have but not required:
- Extra water - We'll have a big water cooler, but you
can never have too much water.
- Gloves - Work gloves keep your hands from getting torn up
clearing brush and such. Leather is best. We'll have a couple of community
pairs, but for the most part you'll be responsible for providing these.
- Equipment - If you have personal equipment you'd like to
use, bring it! Our primary tools are axes, machetes, bow saws, and hatchets.
(Don't bring chainsaws)
There's always more to learn. You'll pick most of it up as you go along.
But if you absolutely need to know something right away, shoot us an email.

FAQ's What is Student Bonfire?
Student
Bonfire is a group of students working together to build and burn the annual
the pre-Thanksgiving bonfire. It is being a part of something bigger than
yourself, making friends that will last forever and a part of college you'll
never forget. For more information, visit the Student
Bonfire website.
When is Bonfire?
Bonfire information and dates can be found on the
Student
Bonfire website. What do Off Campus Hogs have to do with Bonfire?
Bonfire participants are broken down into several different crews. These
crews are generally comprised of students who live in the same dorm or
are in the same corps outfit. The Off Campus Hogs are a crew made up of
Bonfire participants who live off campus.
Who can come to Bonfire?
Everyone is welcome at Bonfire as long as they are safe. The more, the
merrier! However, any participant who doesn't follow the safety
guidelines set forth by Student Bonfire
leadership will be asked to leave.
I've never been to Bonfire before. Where do I go...
OC Hogs meet up before each cut to grab breakfast and carpool to the site,
usually at the Albertson's on University Dr. If you prefer to drive to cut
or stack site yourself, the location and directions will be announced
on the Student Bonfire
website. |
